What is Exeter City Swimming Club?

Exeter City is a private members sports club.  Its purpose is to provide members with the opportunities to swim at all levels from learning to swim programmes to the very highest levels of the sport.

The club's Head Coach is Jon Randall.   Most of our swimming coaches provide their expertise and time on a voluntary basis.  In December 2005 Exeter City became a Registered Charity and the club is awaiting the outcome of an application for Swim21 accreditation. Training is provided at four different pools in the Exeter area; The Pyramids, Northbrook, the Devon and Cornwall Police pool at Middlemoor and the Royal Marines pool at Lympstone.

How is the club organised?

The club is organised into various squads depending on age, ability and level of commitment.

The club is managed by a committee of members who are elected every year at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) who take these positions on a voluntary basis to provide opportunities for all members.

What can you expect by joining the club?

The club is able to provide children with opportunities and facilities to learn and develop technique, fitness and experience to swim competitively at all levels.  Of course, we cannot guarantee selection for the next Olympics but with determination, hard work and commitment from the swimmer the club has the structure and coaches to take members to the highest levels in the sport.  Four of our swimmers took part in the trials for the GB team for the Athens Olympics and Liam Tancock, the  Commonwealth Games 100m Backstroke Champion and World bronze medallist learnt to swim and was coached at Exeter City until moving to Loughborough University.

What are the benefits for your child?

Membership and regular training will provide your children with opportunities to excel in a competitive sport and develop a strong and healthy body.  In addition to these more obvious benefits parents also find that their children develop in all sorts of other ways.  The regular training routine brings with it self-discipline and an understanding that hard work produces results.  Success through hard work brings self-confidence and mixing with people at all levels within the sport develops social skills.
